Del Mar has an unusual appliance mix for its size. Entertaining is a big part of how these houses are used, so undercounter ice machines and wine columns turn up far more often here than the population would suggest — and both are appliances people only notice have failed when they are needed.
Ice machines in particular live in tight cabinetry with limited airflow, and in this climate a condenser that is even partly blocked halves production. That is the most common Del Mar call we take, and it is usually a clean and a drain rather than a part.
The coastal strip has the same salt-air condenser problem as La Jolla. Inland toward the fairgrounds the housing is newer and the faults skew electronic — sensors, boards, and control panels rather than corrosion.
