The $89 covers the technician coming out and carrying out a full diagnostic — not a look, a diagnosis — followed by an upfront quote for the repair. Go ahead with the repair and the $89 is waived: you pay parts and labor only.
If you decide not to proceed, you pay the $89 and keep the diagnosis — what failed and what it would cost to put right. We would rather give an honest answer than sell a repair not worth doing.
Because it would be a work of fiction. The same symptom — a refrigerator that will not hold temperature — can be a fan motor or a sealed system rebuild, and no honest technician can tell you which over the phone. What we can do is name the likely range once you describe it, and give you a firm number before anything is touched.
Every repair carries a one-year warranty on parts and labor. Major work — sealed system rebuilds, compressor replacement — is covered up to five years. That difference is deliberate: sealed system work depends more on the technician than on the part, so it is what we back longest.
The second figure above is not a repair. It is a scheduled visit — condenser cleaned, seals inspected and adjusted, temperature calibrated, system checked — and on built-in refrigeration it is the one price here that reliably prevents a larger one. What the visit covers has a page of its own.
