La Jolla gives us two very different jobs. The first is the older estate above the cove: full-height built-in refrigeration panelled into custom cabinetry, a professional range, and a wine column that has been running since the kitchen was built. The second is the newer construction along the coast, where the equipment is current but the sea air is not kind to it.
Salt air is the local variable that actually changes a repair. Condenser coils on ocean-facing properties load up faster and corrode at the fins, and outdoor refrigeration and grills suffer worst of all. A La Jolla condenser that has never been cleaned is usually the whole explanation for a unit that cools fine overnight and struggles by mid-afternoon.
Panelled installations matter too. When a refrigerator is fitted flush and faced with cabinetry that matches the kitchen, it cannot simply be pulled into the middle of the floor. It has to be serviced in place, which is what these machines were designed for — and what a technician who mostly works on freestanding appliances is not set up to do.
