Freezer & Freezer Column Repair

A freezer that is a few degrees out is a slow, quiet way to ruin everything in it.

Freezer faults are less dramatic than refrigerator faults and cost more. A unit sitting at 10°F instead of 0°F still looks frozen, still feels cold, and is quietly degrading everything inside it. Most people find out weeks later.

On columns and undercounter units the causes are narrow: the defrost circuit, the evaporator fan, the door seal, or a drain that has iced closed. The photograph on this page is exactly that job — the rear panel off, coil and fans exposed, which is where the answer always is.

Symptoms

What it usually turns out to be

Find your symptom below and you will know roughly what to expect before we arrive.

Heavy frost on the coil or rear wall

The defrost heater or its thermistor. Frost on the coil means the defrost cycle is not completing, and the unit gets worse each day as the coil insulates itself.

Freezer cold but refrigerator warm

On a dual-system built-in this is the refrigerator circuit, not the freezer. See our refrigerator page — the diagnosis is different.

Ice cream soft, everything else fine

A two-to-five degree drift, usually the sensor or a door seal. Worth measuring rather than adjusting the dial and hoping.

Fan noise that stops when the door opens

Normal — the fan is meant to stop. Noise that continues, or a fan that never runs at all, is the evaporator fan motor.

Drawers frozen shut

Moisture entering past a failed seal and freezing at the runner. The seal is the repair; chipping the ice is not.

Undercounter unit icing up

These live in warm cabinetry with limited airflow and are especially sensitive to a blocked condenser or a drain iced closed.

If the appliance is holding food you cannot replace, say so when you call — we prioritise those.

Vlad solved an issue with our fridge that we have had ever since we bought it. No one else had been able to figure it out — zero water pressure from fridge as well as a broken ice machine. Would call him again for any future appliance fixes!

Vlad is a fantastic repair man. I thought I was going to have to buy a new washer unit. He showed up on time the next day and within 1 minute had diagnosed the problem. In and out and the washer is working great again!

My refrigerator water and ice maker had not been working for a while. Vlad got back to me quickly and came out the next day. He was on time and professional. He was able to repair my refrigerator and everything is working again.
